Winter travel advisories issued for parts of ‘GTA’

A winter travel advisory has been issued for parts of the Toronto metropolitan area, warning of reduced visibility due to heavy snowfall.

Toronto, the Peel and Halton areas could see two to four centimeters of snow by Thursday morning, according to Environment Canada.

In its advisory, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, “Combining gusts of heavy snow with strong winds of up to 70km/h, snow can be blown away and visibility can be significantly reduced.”

“These gusts and gales are expected to continue overnight before abating Thursday morning.”

In the meantime, special weather statements remain in effect for these areas. Environment Canada said strong westerly winds of up to 80 km/h are expected to continue tonight as a cold front passes through.

“The strongest winds are expected near the eastern shores of the Great Lakes, with gusts of up to 90 km/h,” the agency said.

The wind is expected to ease tonight.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy in Toronto, with a 30% chance of winds in the morning. Highs in the morning are 3°C with a wind chill of -8°C.
