Bluebird Investments Limited indicted after worker seriously injured

Newfoundland and Labrador employer Bluebird Investments Limited has been charged with eight counts under Newfoundland and Labrador occupational health and safety laws and regulations after a worker was seriously injured at work. It is

A worker collapsed at a Corner Brook construction site in December 2020.

The Occupational Health and Safety Division of Digital Government and Services NL investigated the incident, according to the state government.

Employers were found to have failed to:

• Provide safe workplaces and necessary equipment, systems and tools that are risk-free for workers.
• Provide information, guidance, training, supervision and equipment to ensure a safe workplace.
• Ensure workers, especially supervisors, are familiar with the hazards.
• Ensure that the occupational health and safety program includes written safe work procedures suitable for hazards.
• Ensure that safe work procedures are followed.
• Ensure that work procedures promote safe interaction between workers and their work environment.
• Ensure that regular inspections of the workplace are carried out to ensure safe working conditions.
• If workers are at risk of falling from work areas above 3 meters for safety, ensure that proper fall protection is used.

Meanwhile, the company supervisor has been charged with failing to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all workers under his or her supervision, according to the NL government.

The company is scheduled to appear in Corner Brook District Court on November 29, 2022.
