Frito Lay Canada Issues Recall of Popular Chips Over Potential Salmonella Hazard

Frito Lay Canada Issues Recall of Popular Chips Over Salmonella Concerns

Frito Lay Canada has initiated a recall of two well-known chip brands in response to potential salmonella contamination.

The voluntary recall affects SunChips Harvest Cheddar Flavour Multigrain Snacks and Munchies Original Snack Mix.

PepsiCo Foods Canada stated in a late Monday media release that the recall was prompted by a notification from a seasoning supplier regarding possible salmonella contamination in an ingredient provided by a third party.

While no salmonella was detected in the seasoning supplied to Frito Lay Canada, the company decided to recall these products as a precautionary measure.

Salmonella, a bacterial infection commonly transmitted through contaminated food and water, poses a significant health risk, particularly to children and the elderly. It can lead to severe gastrointestinal symptoms, dehydration, and, in extreme cases, death.

Frito Lay is collaborating closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to ensure the removal of the recalled products from the market.

All sizes of SunChips Harvest Cheddar Whole Grain Snacks with best-before dates between July 16 and August 13, 2024, are affected, as well as all sizes of Munchies Original Snack Mix within the same date range.

Other flavors of SunChips or Munchies remain unaffected by the recall.

Consumers are advised to check their pantries for any of the recalled products and dispose of them accordingly, Frito Lay emphasized. Further details about the recalled snacks can be found at sunchipsrecall.ca.
