Suspect randomly stabbed a 65-year-old man on the CTrain

A Calgary police dog unit found and arrested a suspect in CTrain who was suspected to be involved in the random sting of a 65-year-old visually impaired man.

According to Calgary police, the man was standing on a train to the northeast leaving the city hall station around 6:15 am on Wednesday.

The victim went out in front of the train to notify the driver, who stopped and called the ambulance crew near Riverfront Avenue. Meanwhile, while parked on the railroad tracks, the suspect broke open the door and escaped from the train.

According to Calgary police, the train was pulled to Bridgeland Station to meet with rescuers, and a 65-year-old man was taken to the hospital by EMS in a serious but stable condition.

A patrol officer in District 3, who hurriedly found the suspect, detained the three and was later released without charge. Dog troops investigated where the suspect was believed to have escaped from the train, and he was found and arrested.

Calgary police have not disclosed the accused’s identity, but said he was 25 and was charged with exacerbated assault and possession of dangerous weapons to the public.

“We chose not to name the suspect in this media release so that we can have more freedom to talk about the core situation of the case and many other situations we have seen recently. “Deputy Director Scott Todd said.

The suspect had been previously arrested and charged by Calgary police six days before this random puncture wound in connection with a robbery attempt and intimidation. These incidents also occurred at the CTrain station.

After his arrest, the man was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment and released for hospital treatment provided he did not visit the Somerset / Bridlewood LRT station.This decision was based on his physical and mental health assessment and the following criteria: Bill C75.

After being arrested on Wednesday, Calgary police said the man had expressed pain and was taken back to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. According to police, he tried to assault the doctor while he was there.

He turned out to be suitable for a prison cell and was detained by police. The suspect’s next appearance was scheduled for Thursday.

Calgary police believe that mental health, addiction, and the homeless are involved in the alleged repetitive violence and the targeting of random bystanders.

“All Calgary people have the right to feel safe when accessing public transport. We work with our Calgary City partners to provide solutions to address the complex social challenges we face. We have identified, “says Todd.

“This is not a Calgary-specific issue. We are working with police partners in other jurisdictions to work on solutions that balance public security with helping vulnerable members of the community.”

The city council is also working to find ways to improve safety and passenger numbers at transportation and CTrain stations and bus stops. Earlier this year, the Calgary Transit increased its network security and police presence amid growing concerns about rider safety.
