Davy delivers icebreaker Vincent Massey to Canadian Coast Guard, The Canadian Business Journal

LEVY, Quebec, Oct. 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Davie Shipbuilding today announced that the medium icebreaker (MIB), CCGS Vincent Massey, has been delivered to the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG).

CCGS Vincent Massey joins two sister ships, CCGS Captain Molly Kool and CCGS Jean Goodwill, which already provide significant icebreaking services in Canada.

Delivery of CCGS Vincent Massey will occur within the time and budget negotiated with the Canadian Coast Guard.

Davie will participate in the National Shipbuilding Strategy and the CCGS Vincent Massey delivery is another strong demonstration of Davie’s ability to deliver the vessels needed by the Canadian government while providing value to Canadian taxpayers. Demonstration.

Built in 2000, CCGS Vincent Massey was acquired by CCG in 2018 and upgraded as part of the MIB class of vessels.

The CCGS Vincent Massey has four medium-speed diesel engines working with two controllable pitch propellers in nozzles with a total thrust of 13,440 kW (18,020 hp). She achieves her top speed of 16 knots (30 km/h) in open water, and at a continuous speed of 3 knots (5.6 km/h) she can break 1 meter of ice. She has a total length of 83.7 meters.

Up to 30 cabins to accommodate officers and crew on board when the vessel is commissioned by CCG.
