Ontario Premier Doug Ford to announce on eve of fall economic statement

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his Finance Minister are due to make an announcement today.

Little information was available about the details of the rare Sunday press conference, which came a day before the state released its fall economic statement.

Ontario is in good financial shape.

A two-week-old report from the state’s Office of Fiscal Accountability projected a budget surplus for the foreseeable future.

Financial watchdogs forecast a surplus of $100 million at the end of the year and $8.5 billion in 2027-28.

Treasurer Peter Bethlenfalby announced in September that Ontario closed its fiscal year with a surplus of $2.1 billion, thanks to inflation and a strong economy.
