The city declared Salvation Army Week in the city this week, with an annual Kettle campaign in which Salvation Army volunteers are ringing bells at malls, shopping centers and grocery stores to collect donations, now starting Thursday, December 12. It runs until Christmas Eve on the 24th of the month.

The Christmas Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army’s largest fundraiser of the year, supporting charities that provide life skills training, family services and housing.

This year, the Salvation Army helped find homes for 63 families, provided food for over 14,000 people, and gave over 1,000 children and families Christmas toys and baskets.

This year’s Christmas Kettle fundraising goal is $200,000.

“We appreciate the generosity of the community in contributing to our Christmas Kettle campaign,” said Capt. Niley Bond, Community Ministry Officer for The Salvation Army.

Thank you for your continued support. Thanks to our army of givers, we can help the most vulnerable in Windsor by restoring dignity and giving hope throughout the year. “

This year, the charity’s annual Free Community Christmas Dinner will once again be held at the St. Clair Center for the Arts on December 14th, giving everyone in the community the chance to celebrate the season with a warm and delicious Christmas dinner.

This year, the Salvation Army has seen an increase in families in need of assistance, including those with young children, amid ongoing economic uncertainty, inflation, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The success of our annual Christmas Kettle Campaign would not be possible without the support of our volunteer Kettle Workers. Please contact 519-971-5878 or WindsorChristmasKettles.ca if you are interested in volunteering to “ring the bell”.
