Hashtag Trends Sept. 6 – IRS Accidentally Leaks Financial Data. TikTok denies any data breach. Amazon closes two service centers

The IRS accidentally leaked financial data, TikTok denied a data breach, and Amazon closed its service center to cut costs.

Welcome to hashtag trending. This is Tom Li, your host, on Tuesday, September 6th.

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service had a bad case of Butterfinger when it mistakenly posted confidential information for 120,000 taxpayers. According to the Wall Street Journal, the leaked data came from Form 990-T, which details retirement plan business income. Information such as names, contact information, and financial information was posted. Other sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers and full tax returns, were thankfully not part of the leak, and the IRS said the human coding that ties the data together with public data was at fault in his error. I tracked it down. This issue is currently under investigation and the data has been removed from public view.

Panic spread over the holiday weekend when hackers allegedly stole data from 2 billion users of the social media app TikTok. The rumor stemmed from a post on his forum online, where his user online claimed responsibility and posted several images of his personal records. However, TikTok responded in a statement to Forbes that it found no evidence of a security breach. That user can breathe a sigh of relief, but cybersecurity researchers are still cautious and urging the user to change the account password and enable two-factor authentication for him.

Amazon’s latest move confirms that the company is trying to cut costs wherever possible. Following the telemedicine division’s closure, Amazon announced it would be closing two of his delivery stations in Baltimore. The two facilities employ more than 300 of his employees. As part of the closure, Amazon says it will offer the opportunity to move to other shipping stations. Expansion contraction can also be seen in other areas. The company has delayed the opening of his massive 700,000-square-foot warehouse in Nebraska until 2024.

Apple users now make up the majority in the US and account for more than half of the mobile devices in use. This figure comes from Counterpoint Research, which draws conclusions from the “active install base,” a metric that aggregates the number of smartphones in use. This news, along with its strong financial performance, makes Apple a strong competitive edge against Android rivals such as Samsung and Lenovo. The company is set to debut the new iPhone 14 tomorrow. Stay tuned for our coverage.
