Throwing eggs at Charles III
London –
British police said a man who appeared to have thrown an egg while King Charles III and his wife, Camilla, were walking in the city of York in northern England, was detained on Wednesday.
The incident occurred as the monarch and his wife entered York through Micklegate Bar, the medieval gateway by which monarchs were traditionally welcomed into the city.
Video footage showed several eggs moving and smashing to the ground. No one attacked the royal couple.
Several police officers were seen wrestling the man at the crowd barrier.British PA news agency said while he was in custody that “this country was built on the blood of slaves”. He reportedly cried.
Charles and Camilla will also visit York Minster, New York’s cathedral, to unveil a statue of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September.
