Smith’s first priority is expected to be the much-discussed but as-yet-unseen Alberta Sovereignty Act, now known by its more full title. Alberta’s sovereignty under Canadian Union law.

Once portrayed as a deliberate unconstitutional measure to provoke the federal government, the name change likely points to a more toned-down law, though details won’t be revealed until later in the week.

Addressing affordability concerns driven by high inflation is expected to be another major priority.

In a televised address last week, the Prime Minister outlined a $2.4 billion measure to address rising costs. This includes paying him $600 in six months for each senior and child under the age of 18 in a household with an annual income of less than $180,000, and a continuous suspension. The session will be suspended for the December 22nd vacation.

It also marks the end of some bills that die on the order form after not passing in the seat in front.

Among them is the Condo Property Amendment Act in Building 19. It promises to protect residents from rising condo rates by changing the way condo companies charge owners for property damage.

Bill 23, the Professional Governance Act, also did not pass before the grace period. If the government believed they were failing their jobs, they would have allowed public administrators to be appointed to the regulatory body for 22 professions ranging from engineers to biologists.
