A glimpse of the jolly old man, also known as Santa Claus, is reason enough to draw crowds to the streets for Sunday’s 31st Annual Saskatoon Santa Claus Parade. But the organizers also promoted other rare sightings, including walking gingerbread cookies, humans disguised as reindeer, and various superheroes and superheroines.

The in-person version of the parade is back in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2020 version to go virtual.

“We are on track,” Bussiere said in an interview.

The parade began its slow crawl through the downtown streets at 1:00 p.m., as young and young at heart children sat, stood, and waved to the floats and participants. North side of Midtown Plaza.

“Children are excited. It’s time to get outside and gather with friends and family. There’s something special about the holiday spirit. The parade spreads Christmas cheer and makes people happy.”

These days, event attendance has hovered between 5,000 and 10,000, with crowds scattered along every street along the parade route. Downtown Core will be closed to traffic for the duration of the event.

Referring to this year’s superhero theme, Boussiere said, “There’s always a surprise for kids,” adding, “There’s always something amazing in the parade: giant inflatable costumes, toy soldiers, giant snowmen.” there is.

Coffee shops downtown offered free cookies and hot chocolate, and parking was free around the area. This year, a wide variety of businesses and organizations participated in the parade, with a total of 50 floats participating in the event, returning the parade to its pre-pandemic numbers.

Proceeds from the Saskatoon Santa Claus Parade will benefit the Ronald McDonald House, which has its own float that led the parade.

As a non-profit organization, the Santa Claus Parade Committee solicits donations in the community and donates to supported charities.
