Edmonton Oilers beat Rangers for 3rd place – Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers beat the New York Rangers 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden with four goals in the third period.

The Rangers jumped 2:20 into the game when Alexis Lafrenière was deflected on a goalmouth pass from Adam Fox. They thought they made it 2–0 in the first half with a powerplay goal by Artemi Panarin, but the play was denied after the Oilers successfully challenged for offside.

With 5:28 remaining in the second, Bradenschneider beat Jack Campbell with a shot from the right shot. The Oilers challenged goaltender interference as Ryan Carpenter nudged Campbell when the puck came in. After a lengthy review, the goal was removed from the board. However, Rangers were soon back with goals 33 seconds apart by Chris Crider and Julien Gautier.

Evan Bouchard ended the Oilers’ 119:48 goalless drought early in the third set with his first right-sided shot of the season. Bouchard struck again less than three minutes later and suddenly the Oilers were inside the goal with 12:28 on the clock. Dylan Holloway then scored from the short side post to equalize with 9:39 remaining. It was Holloway’s first career goal.

Late in the third, Lafrenière was penalized for taking off Tyson Barry’s helmet. Leon Draisaitl then tapped a pass on his play of power and he scored the winner with 2:02 remaining.

Campbell made 20 saves for the win. Ryan McLeod He recorded two assists.

The Oilers, 11-10, will host the Florida Panthers on Monday (630 CHED, showdown at 6pm, game at 7:30pm).
