The Vernon singer-songwriter releases a new album for the first time in decades

More than 25 years after the release of her last album, the Vernon singer-songwriter has a new set of tracks heading to streaming services soon.

Marsha Thompson is a country-folk artist who recently returned to Vernon after spending many years in Calgary and Vancouver. Her new album, Wishing on Stars, is out this month and is available at Predator Ridge and City Dance. The album will also be available for streaming on her platform soon.

The country-folk album includes some swing tunes, as well as steel guitar, violin and saxophone notes.

“It’s pretty eclectic,” Thompson told Morningstar. “I think this is probably the best of them all.”

Thompson had previously released two albums, ‘Moment in Time’ and ‘Broken Glass’, the latter being released 27 years ago in 1995.

“Like some of us, I went blank for a while. Life got in the way and I was scared to sit there looking at a guitar in the corner for like 10 years.” “Then I moved out. Vernon and I started singing in the choir again,” she said. The exciting part is that we have new songs and some old[songs]that I’ve adapted, which is really nice, the community is great.”

As with her previous albums, Thompson channeled her love of nature into Wishing On Stars.

“What’s woven into most of my music is that there’s always a reference to something in the natural world, even if it’s just a temporary reference. Written in the valley, it sings of the return of the red-winged black bird,” she said.

The album also talks about love in all its forms, including the love of friends.

“There’s a song out there about friends and it’s really relevant in times of COVID.”

Thompson sells CD copies of the album, and she expects the album to be available on streaming platforms just 10 days after it’s been digitized.

Thompson has a number of shows in the Vernon area and will be giving a concert in the new year to mark the new album.
