JonBenet Ramsey: Unsolved Murder Investigated by Cold Case Team – National

Nearly 26 years after the murder of 6-year-old JonBennett Ramsey, police in Boulder, Colorado, turn to a national cold case team to continue the investigation.

In a news release from the city of Boulder, officials claimed detectives investigated more than 21,000 information, letters and emails for clues and traveled to 19 states to speak to more than 1,000 people.

Federal, state, and local organizations, including the FBI, assisted in the investigation. According to a news release, the DNA evidence for the 1996 murder, although “extremely small and complex,” has been analyzed by several private DNA laboratories across the country.

“Like any unsolved murder case, an investigation can always benefit from an outside expert’s perspective,” the release explained.

To this end, the police plan to work with the Colorado Cold Case Review team in 2023. A team of expert investigative, analytical and forensic experts from across the state will advise you on how best to proceed with your investigation.

JonBenet, who has become one of North America’s most famous true crime cases, was found brutally murdered in the basement of his home the day after Christmas 1996. Her father, John Her Ramsey, found her body in her JonBenet covering her mouth with duct tape. Her cord wrapped around her neck. Police in Boulder, Colorado, reported that a girl was sexually assaulted.

A mysterious ransom note was also left at the house, randomly demanding US$118,000.

JonBenet’s killer has not yet been found. Only her parents and her younger brother Burke, who was nine years old at the time, were home when her body was found.

“This crime has left a hole in the hearts of many and we will not stop investigating until we find JonBenet’s killer,” Police Chief Maris Herold said in a release. “This includes tracking down leads and working with law enforcement partners and DNA experts across the country to solve this tragic case. This investigation has been and will continue to be a priority for Boulder Police Department.”

The Boulder, Colorado Police Department has received ample criticism over the JonBenet murder investigation over the past two decades. In May, John Ramsey publicly called on outside agencies to further analyze DNA evidence from the case.

JonBenet’s half-brother, John Andrew Ramsey, called the Cold Case Review Team’s involvement in the investigation “a step forward.”

“We have more work to do to catch the killer, but we can do it,” he tweeted.
