Sentencing hearings begin for Alberta man who admitted to murdering infant woman

Hinton, Alta. – A sentencing trial is set to begin today for a man who admitted to murdering a woman and her 16-month-old son in western Alberta.

Robert Major pleaded guilty in May to two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 24-year-old Mchale Busch and her son Noah McConnell.

The major also faced two charges of interfering with human remains, but prosecutors said those charges were dropped.

Bush and her son were found dead on September 17, 2021 at the Hinton apartment complex, about 250 kilometers west of Edmonton.

The woman and her partner had moved into the apartment next door to Major three weeks ago.

The Crown says it’s unclear how Bush got to Major’s apartment, but there he sexually assaulted, strangled, and mutilated her.

The court heard that the Major choked the child by stuffing a sock into his mouth and putting a plastic bag over his head.
