Christmas fund: Lisa felt like she missed a chance to launch her career

Lisa, who has a degree in electrical engineering, moved to Quebec from Venezuela in 2013 with her husband.

However, after the divorce, Lisa became a single mother of two children and did not feel able to pursue job opportunities.

“I was alone and scared to start working in my field,” said Lisa, 35.

Lisa said not knowing the language also held her back. Eventually, she enrolled in night school to learn French.

“Going back to school was tough. I didn’t have the guidance. It’s not easy doing all this alone in a new country,” she said. I decided I should do something for myself, I don’t want to stay home and I think that was a good example for my kids.

This year her mother, cousin and uncle will be living in Quebec. She started attending CEGEP two months ago with government support.
