Man shot by Yukon police was a former Air North employee
CBC reports that the suspect is from Alberta and his family has asked not to be named.
At 12:37 pm, police received a call that a man was in possession of a gun. He threatened an Air North employee in the company’s cargo office, causing an “argument.”
The RCMP arrived shortly thereafter, arriving around 12:50 PM.
The man was walking towards officers with a gun when they arrived, according to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT). The officer told him to stop and drop his weapon – a long gun with no limits, but he kept walking. At that moment, a policeman shot the man who had fallen to the ground.
Officers administered first aid to the man before he was taken to a hospital in Whitehorse. He was pronounced dead around 1:30 p.m., CBC reported.
