Since then, seven days a week, from 7pm to 9pm, the trailer serves hot soup, freshly baked bread rolls, and hot beverages.

The project is described as a “mobile soup kitchen,” but for now the usual location is the parking lot of the throne room at Grace Church (405 Victoria Avenue).

The trailer is staffed with 3 volunteers at a time. In addition to providing food and drink to clients, volunteers help clients connect with shelter organizations, distribute warm items on cold nights, and provide information about community resources to those experiencing homelessness. I will help.

A joint venture with the charity Feeding Windsor Essex, Soup Shack aims to address food shortages among vulnerable populations.

Organizers noted that the more traditional downtown Windsor soup kitchens often stopped around 6:30 p.m. It leaves a period in which people without food may not be able to access food.

The Soup Shack’s current focus is in downtown Windsor, but organizers plan to serve other neighborhoods and community areas in the future.

Ensuring food safety has been a Feeding Windsor Essex mandate for the past eight years, and Street Angels Windsor Essex outreach efforts have continued for the past two years.

We still need volunteers for the Soup Shack. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Street Angels Windsor Essex (519-915-2377) or email streetangelswindsor@gmail.com.
