Montreal’s Christmas market hits the holiday season as state pours nearly $500,000 – Montreal
In Montreal, with the support of the state government, it’s starting to feel a little more like Christmas.
In a press release on Saturday, Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx announced a donation of nearly $500,000 to support Montreal’s Grand Circuit Ferrique.
Running through December 31st, the circuit includes the Christmas Village at Atwater Market, the Great Christmas Market at Cartier des Spectacles and the Jean-Talon Market.
Cartier des Spectacles kicked off the festivities on Saturday when Prue attended, but the Atwater Market only takes place during the holiday season on November 24th and the Jean-Talon Market on November 26th.

Prue pointed out how the Christmas market can help revitalize the economy by showcasing Quebec producers and artisans.
“The Grand Circuit Ferric de Montreal contributes to Quebec’s notoriety as a destination of choice,” she said in a news release.

Visitors to each market can enjoy different cultures and cuisines as well as meet local artisans. Santa takes time out of his busy schedule to visit her market at Atwater on weekends.
Proulx encourages visitors to “extend their stay in the big city to take advantage of attractions and activities offered for the whole family.”
Quebec’s Ministry of Tourism has contributed $469,500 to the initiative, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has committed $10,000.
