Two workers killed in explosion at Alberta oil and gas facility
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of two people,” Schmidt said in a Calgary Herald report. “We all feel for the family and what they are going through. I think.”
Schmidt confirmed that there was an explosion at the scene, but said he didn’t know what materials were involved or how it exploded.
“It’s very difficult for anyone,” Schmidt said, adding that otherwise the Tamarac has an “excellent” safety record.
According to the report, occupational health and safety spokesman Trent Bankers said there was an “active investigation” into the incident.
Last month, unions called for a formal investigation into September explosions at refineries in Newfoundland and Labrador that left one worker dead and seven injured.
