Fraser Valley Stage Presents Two Festival Musicals in Abbotsford

The Fraser Valley Stage (FVS) presents two musicals in Abbotsford this holiday season.

Winter Wonderettes and Plaid Tidings will be held every other day December 1-10 at the Abbotsford Arts Center at 2329 Crescent Way.

Winter Wonderettes – The seasonal sequel to The Marvelous Wonderettes by Roger Bean, featuring four best friends who work the holiday shifts at the local hardware store. But when Santa goes missing, the girls must use her talent and ingenuity to save the big annual holiday party.

The cast includes Diana Fast as Betty Jean, Tiffany King as Missy, Shayna Kelly as Susie, and Elizabeth Seaman as Cindy Lou.

Co-producer Cathy McWhinney said, “It’s a great family Christmas show and I think viewers will absolutely love Wonderlets.” And on stage, he entertains people non-stop.”

Winter Wonderettes traverses memory lane with ’60s versions of holiday classics such as Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town. Jingle Bell Rock; Run, Rudolph, Run. and Winter Wonderland.

Plaid Tidings is the Christmas-themed sequel to the popular Forever Plaid, known for its high-energy, amazing harmonies and lots of laughs, brought to the Abbotsford stage in 2019 by FVS.

“Plaid Tidings takes us back to a more innocent time, when music was infectious and Christmas carols ruled the airwaves,” says director Dan Wilhelm. “His wonderful quartet from Plaids are back on Earth once again to share their love of tight harmonies and goofy antics. Their humor and heart will charm your Bobby Socks.”

Dan Wilhelm will play Frankie, Christopher Hall will play Jinx, Jake Hildebrand will play Sparky, and Brad Dewar will play Smudge.

These four guys embrace Plaid personas both on and off stage.

“They eat everything, sleep, breathe, and actually have their own ‘Plaid Podcast,'” says co-producer Al Pattison. “Their love of this show and their commitment to each role will shine on stage and keep audiences on their feet again at every show.”

Our Christmas offerings are sprinkled with audience favorites. This includes a raucous 3 minute 11 second version of Ed on His Sullivan Show, featuring the Rockets, the Chipmunks and the Vienna Boys Choir, as well as Plaid on Her Caribbean Christmas. Put “Day-O” into Excelsis.

The evening performance is at 7:30 pm, with three matinees starting at 2:00 pm.

Tickets are $32 for adults and $28 for seniors/children and can be reserved online at fraservalleystage.com or by calling 604-302-1235. See website for exact show times and details.
