Kelowna Sports Weekend Preview: Rockets home and away, Warriors look to end losing streak

Hockey reigns supreme once again as all of Kelowna’s teams are in action this weekend.

Kelowna Rockets

After losing to Seattle on Wednesday night, the Kelowna Rockets will stay south of the border to face the Everett Silvertips on Friday night.

The Rockets have been consistently inconsistent this season, going 5-5 in their last 10 games and going 8-9-1-0 this season, sitting seventh in the Western Conference.

Everett is 12-8-1-0 for fourth place in the conference, but has gone 0-3-1-0 in their last four games.

At one meeting six weeks ago, Everett beat Kelowna 5-4 in Kelowna.

Kelowna welcomes captain Colton Duck to the lineup for Friday night’s game. He did not appear in Wednesday’s game against Seattle due to a one-game suspension.

Puck drops for Friday night’s games will take place at Everett’s Angel of the Winds Arena at 7:05 PM.

But Friday night’s matchup isn’t for the Rockets this weekend. Moose Joe on Saturday night because he’s heading home to face the Warriors.

It will be the first time Kelowna has hosted the Moose Jays since the 2018-19 season and the first meeting since December 14, 2019, when Kelowna won 5-4. Saturday night is the only match between the two teams this season.

Coming into the weekend, the Moose Jaws finished fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 13-9-0-0 record.

On Saturday night, Prospera Place’s Beckin’s Moving and Storage will collect preserved food donations for the Central Okanagan Food Bank at Gates 1 and 2.

Saturday night pack drop is at 7:05pm

West Kelowna Warriors

The West Kelowna Warriors head north for the weekend to take on the Prince George Spruce Kings on Friday and Saturday nights.

Heading into the weekend, the Warriors are looking to end their three-game losing streak. Despite the losing streak, the Warriors still have a 12-5-2 record that puts him in second place at the BCHL’s internal affairs conference, but tied with Prince George in points. The Spruce Kings also have 26 points and a 12-6-1-1 record.

This weekend, the two weeks overlap for the first time this season. Last year, the Warriors won his series 6-1 on the season.

Both matches will take place at Prince George’s Copper Memorial Arena, with pucks dropping at 7pm.

Kelowna Chiefs

The Kelowna Chiefs are traveling to Fruitvale and Nelson this weekend.

They face the Beaver Valley Nighthawks on Friday night and the Nelson Leafs on Saturday.

The Chiefs have had a tough season so far as they sit last in the overall KIJHL with a 3-16-1-1 record.

Puck drops for both games are at 7pm

UBCO Heat

The women’s basketball team will be at home this weekend as they welcome the Fraser Valley Cascades to town.

We meet at 5pm on Friday nights and 3pm on Saturdays.

Both men and women were scheduled to participate, but the men’s event was postponed due to poor health.

Both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams will be playing in Winnipeg this weekend.
