Late-season wildfires issue evacuation warning for eastern BC’s Fraser Valley
Agassiz, BC – Out-of-season wildfires have put residents of a rural area on the edge of Agassiz, British Columbia on evacuation alert.
The Kent District has declared a regional emergency, saying fires on the Mount Limbert side south of the Canadian Pacific Railroad line pose a danger to life and health.
The alert covers about a dozen properties and says residents should be ready to move out if conditions change.
The BC Wildfire Service said the fire discovered Thursday is believed to be man-made and is just over a hectare in size.
Many parts of British Columbia experienced drought this fall, in contrast to the torrential rains that ravaged the state a year ago.
Although conditions have eased in many areas, much of the Lower Mainland, including wildfire sites, remains below Level 3 on a 5-level scale, with potential adverse impacts, according to BC government data. I have.
