San Francisco police are proposing a new policy to license robots to use lethal force, The Verge reported. The draft states that robots could be used when there is an imminent risk of loss of life for civilians or police officers, which outweighs other options for the use of force. The San Francisco Rules Board unanimously approved a draft version last week, and it is expected to be submitted to the Oversight Board on November 29. SFPD currently has 17 remote-controlled robots, but only 12 of them are functioning. In addition to granting robots the ability to use lethal force, the proposal would also “allow their use in training and simulation, arresting criminals, serious incidents, and more.

US health regulators on Tuesday approved the first gene therapy for hemophilia, a blood-clotting disorder. The treatment is his $3.5 million one-time treatment called Hemgenics, an IV treatment for adults with hemophilia B. A $3.5 million price tag makes Hemgenix the world’s most expensive drug, according to a study cited by the National Library of Medicine. But pharmaceutical company CSL Behring says the treatment will ultimately reduce health care costs, as patients bleed less and require less coagulation therapy.
