Why Kevin McHale won’t be in the Glee reboot as Artie

Fans of the long-running Fox series may be excited about a potential return, but don’t get your hopes up Gree Club member Artie Abrams, originally played by McHale, entered the mix. The fan favorite, who played Artie in all six seasons of the Fox series, spoke to an insider about the potential reboot and explained why he won’t be playing the future film director again.

“I don’t know if Artie will be able to appear,” McHale told Insider on Nov. 16. If I grow a beard and play a different character, I will.”

In the series, Artie explained that he had been in a car accident before and was in a wheelchair. But looking back on his role years later, McHale says he and the Glee team are now “well acquainted.”

“What were we thinking?” he turned to the role. “I can’t play the role.”
