Emergency workers tackle home fire after days of chaos in Merritt

Firefighters were called Wednesday night after a fire broke out at a house at 2890 Ransom Avenue in Merritt.

The fire was reported before 6pm

Witnesses report seeing flames coming out of the house. It is unknown how much damage was done to the house or if anyone was in the house at the time.

The RCMP was also on the scene.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The incident follows one of many that have swept the city of Merritt over the past seven days. More than 100 shots were fired at him around Nicole Valley on November 15, followed by at least five shootouts in the city. center of town.

Early Wednesday morning, the RCMP closed the Coquihala Highway between Merritt and Hope. A car trying to get away from police got stuck in a side road, and a resident reportedly had a gun as he fled the area. A woman and two men were arrested without incident.

After the arrest, an investigation revealed that the stolen truck had been stolen from Coquitlam and the accompanying license had been stolen from Langley.

“We are aware of online speculation regarding the identities of these suspects,” Rhoda said. “While we are in the preliminary stages of this investigation, there is no indication that these suspects are related to recent high-profile events in the Lower Mainland or Merritt.
