Birchmount College Eight reopens Tuesday after student stabbed, police investigation continues

A high school in Scarborough opens today after a boy was stabbed and seriously injured inside the building.

The incident occurred around 3:00 pm on Monday at the Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute, located at 3663 Danforth Avenue, just east of Birchmount Road.

Officers at the scene found a 17-year-old boy with apparent stab wounds in the school office, according to Toronto Police.

They “immediately started long-term life-saving measures,” Insp said. Craig Young told media at the scene Monday night.

Paramedics soon arrived and took the victim to a local hospital, where Young said the condition was life-threatening.

The victim attended Birchmount Park College Eight and is in the 12th grade, Ryan Bird, a spokesperson for the Toronto District School Board, confirmed late Monday afternoon. He said social workers were brought in to help “all those affected” by the incident.

Birchmount Park Collegiate was put on lockdown for about two and a half hours after the stabbing incident.

Last April, a 14-year-old boy was stabbed outside his school and seriously injured.

Two weeks ago, an 18-year-old boy was shot dead outside Woburn College Eight near Markham Road and Ellesmere Road. A 15-year-old boy was also injured in the incident.

“Schools should be safe places to learn and work,” Byrd said.

“TDSB is playing an important role in that solution, but I think we need support from other levels of government and community partners. This cannot be done by TDSB alone.”

Toronto police said they went room-by-room at the Birchmount Park Collegiate school on Monday night and interviewed every student they believed may have been involved in or witnessed the incident. “

Young said school safety is a top priority for Toronto police.

“[We]will firmly respond to this call and any calls regarding school safety. Clearly it is a concern for us and we will remain committed to school safety,” he said. .

Last night, Toronto police did not release the suspect’s information to preserve the “integrity of the investigation.”

On Tuesday morning, Toronto police told CP24 that they had identified a person of interest but had not yet made an arrest.
