Raises $530,000 for new CT scanner at Vernon Hospital

The Vernon community has done a great job for the Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH) Foundation.

Giving Tuesday, a global philanthropic day, was held on November 29th. The funds raised were used to acquire his second CT scanner which was much needed at VJH.

On this Giving Tuesday, $265,000 was raised to double CT scanning capacity in the North Okanagan, and donations were doubled until the Galbraith Family Foundation matched all donations to reach a total of $530,000.

“This is amazing! I am always inspired by how the community comes together for a greater cause. Thank you to everyone who attended Giving Tuesday. “This is the first time in many matching efforts that we have raised this amount in one day.

“Thanks to three generations of Galbraith born here, we know how important it is for medical staff to have the best equipment to provide the highest quality care. Equipping VJH with two state-of-the-art CT scanners will reduce wait times and save the lives of family and friends,” added Galbraith.

The new CT scanner costs $6.3 million, but when the VJH Foundation launched its annual Light a Bulb campaign on November 15, it had only $900,000 available. The community responded with $100,000 in the first week.

“As a community, we should be very proud of what we have achieved today,” said Kate McBrearty, Executive Director of the Foundation. “It has been inspiring to see this overwhelming support and generosity for Giving Tuesday and the CT Scanner campaign. We have been inspired to share stories about why people give. Any gift, no matter the amount, makes a big difference. We are so grateful to the Galbraith family for kicking off this extraordinary wave of community support on this gift day.”
