Los Angeles County Sheriff Recruit Hit by Car While on the Run, Officials Say – National

Multiple Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department recruits were hit by cars early Wednesday morning, officials said.

Television news helicopter broadcasts showed firefighters and ambulances having a massive reaction in Whittier, vehicles on the sidewalk, and numerous individuals in uniform nearby in athletic gear.

Authorities could not immediately reveal how many recruits had been attacked.

A class of recruits was hit by a vehicle at approximately 6:26 a.m. during a training session, according to a Sheriff’s Department statement.

“There were multiple injuries and all victims were taken to local hospitals for further treatment,” the statement said. “The extent of their injuries is currently unknown. The driver of the vehicle that hit the recruits has been detained pending further investigation.”
