70-year-old man arrested after hit-and-run death in Mississauga

A man was arrested last month in connection with a hit-and-run in Mississauga that killed a 19-year-old woman.

Peel Local Police announced on Tuesday the arrest of a driver who is believed to have fled the October 13 crash at the intersection of Tomken Road and Britannia Road.

Police say the woman was crossing a pedestrian crossing when she was run over by an older model SUV, possibly gray in color.

The driver left the intersection without stopping. Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A suspected hit-and-run driver, identified as Brampton’s 70-year-old Claude Martin, was arrested on Monday following a lengthy investigation.

Martin was charged with not stopping after he died in an accident. He is scheduled to appear in court in Brampton in January.

Due to the recent increase in pedestrian fatalities, police are urging users to exercise caution and exercise due caution on the road.

“Drivers are asked to remain vigilant at intersections with crosswalks. Pedestrians are asked not to cross the middle of the block. Cross the intersection and follow all traffic regulations,” police said. Stated.
