LOS ANGELES — Jay Leno suffered “severe burns,” but on Monday said he was fine.

The cause and time of the fire were not immediately clear. The former “Tonight Show” host is known for his famous collection of cars kept in his garage in Burbank, north of Los Angeles.

Leno’s publicist and production company did not immediately return an email and phone request from The Associated Press.

Leno, 72, was scheduled to attend a financial conference in Las Vegas on Sunday, but it was canceled due to a “serious medical emergency,” People magazine sent to conference attendees Monday. It was reported by citing an e-mail.

The comedian took over NBC’s “Tonight” when longtime host Johnny Carson retired in 1992. Leno’s successor was Conan O’Brien in his 2009. job until Jimmy Fallon took over his 2014.

Leno turned his love of cars into the CNBC series “Jay Leno’s Garage” and is currently hosting the revival of the game show “You Bet Your Life.”
