“Houthi Strikes and Gaza Highlighted on UK’s Agenda for Bahrain and UAE Diplomatic Mission”

The UK’s Middle East Minister embarks on a diplomatic mission to engage with leaders in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with a primary focus on addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and enhancing security measures for shipping in the Red Sea.

Lord Tariq Ahmad’s itinerary includes a visit to the UK’s naval support center in Bahrain, a pivotal hub for international operations against the Iran-backed Houthis. This visit underscores the UK’s commitment to regional stability and security, particularly in light of ongoing threats posed by the Houthis. Additionally, Lord Ahmad aims to engage in discussions regarding the latest developments in Gaza, following the recent approval of a $25 billion aid package for Israel by the US.

Expressing the urgency of the situation, Lord Ahmad emphasizes the importance of collaboration with key partners to promote de-escalation and bolster regional stability. The UK, Bahrain, and the UAE, as close allies, play crucial roles in addressing humanitarian suffering in Gaza and countering the threat posed by the Houthis in the Red Sea. Lord Ahmad underscores the need for concerted efforts to facilitate the delivery of aid to Gaza and secure the release of hostages, while also advancing towards a lasting two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

Scheduled to commence his visit in Bahrain on Sunday before proceeding to the UAE, Lord Ahmad’s agenda includes discussions with Bahraini officials, including the National Security Adviser, Foreign Minister, and Interior Minister. These discussions will focus on reinforcing the UK’s commitment to securing humanitarian access to Gaza and addressing broader regional security concerns, particularly in relation to the ongoing conflict with the Houthis.

In Bahrain, Lord Ahmad will visit the UK’s Royal Navy facility, a critical component of Operation Prosperity Guardian and Operation Poseidon Archer, which aim to counter Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. These operations underscore the UK’s proactive stance in safeguarding maritime security in the region.

Upon his arrival in the UAE, Lord Ahmad is expected to engage in further discussions on the ongoing conflict and explore avenues for diplomatic resolution. His visit to both Bahrain and the UAE underscores the UK’s multifaceted approach to addressing regional challenges and underscores the importance of international collaboration in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
