Jill Clayton has been a state commissioner since 2012, but she chose not to seek a third term of work and urged her to look for a replacement.
As an independent officer of the legislature, the Commissioner ensures that public, health care, and private sector organizations support access to the information and privacy rights set out in Alberta law. We defend Alberta’s right to information and privacy.
Since 2013, MacLeod has been the Ombudsman, Information and Privacy Commissioner, and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner of the Yukon Territory. Prior to that, he was Director of the Personal Information Protection Act of Alberta’s Privacy Commissioner.
According to a state government statement issued Wednesday, MacLeod also worked as a privacy and security consultant for the BC state government, working in the Calgary Health Region for several years in the areas of legal services and information and privacy.
Jordan Walker, chair of Sherwood ParkMLA and the Select Special Information and Privacy Commissioner Search Committee, said McLeod “supporting and committing to protecting privacy throughout her career is critical to her success in her position.”
The Commission will submit its report to Congress next week, recommending the appointment of MacLeod as of August 1.
