Yaka men is a fascinating dish. Beef noodle soup is believed to be a fusion of Chinese, Korean and Creole dishes and is often referred to as the “best secret” of New Orleans. At least until the late Anthony Bourdain appeared Chef Linda Green In the episode No reservation.. I was born and partially raised in the neighboring Mississippi — with the Cajun family! — And it somehow escaped my awareness (and mouth) until very recently.
Yaka men is a variation of soup. Different meats and sea / swamp foods (shrimp, pork, or gator), different seasonings for each chef, when referred to by different names, such as yakamen, yakamen, yakamen, old sober dishes (because of their therapeutic effect) With a blend of ingredients.
according to Food52The exact origin of the yakamein is “ambiguous” and “hotly debated”:
One theory claims that it was introduced by an African-American soldier who fought in the Korean War and returned home in search of a familiar noodle soup dish abroad, but another theory claims that this dish is now in New Orleans. It claims to have been born in extinct Chinatown (a product of Chinese immigrants who have adapted their customary noodle soup to serve local Creole customers).
Main component of yakamein is simple and full. You will need stewed beef, most commonly chuck or brisket, wheat noodles (usually spaghetti), and creole seasonings. Soups are usually seasoned with ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and / or soy sauce for tasting. Hard-boiled eggs and green onions can be obtained with parsley, onions, fried noodles, and pork trotter, but they are an indisputable garnish.
There is no “right” way to make yaksaMein, and many of the best recipes, are strictly guarded by the people who develop them, making it a fun dish to play with. It’s commonly sold as a cure for takeaway hangovers, but there’s no reason why you can’t have a hangover at home, especially if you need an old sober hangover and don’t live in the city of New Orleans.
Stewed beef rate-Rate-determining stepHowever, skillful use of instant pots can save you hours. Instead of boiling for 3-4 hours, cooking in a pressure cooker for 1 hour will produce a luxurious shredded beef and a rich, flavorful soup.
A white woman in Mississippi, with Cajun’s thin roots, hesitates to share a strict “recipe”, but went to share my method and make the yaka men shown in the bowl above. I will explain the procedure (my job). However, Yaka mein is a dish with a lot of variations, so it is recommended to find and try as many recipes and variations as possible.
How to make yaka men in instant pots
First, collect the materials. Will need:
- 2-3 lbs of chuck roast
- 2 teaspoons of creole seasoning
- 1/2-1 lbs of spaghetti, depending on the number of people feeding
- soy sauce
- Worcestershire sauce
- Louisiana Hot Sauce (I like Louisiana brand or crystal, not Tabasco)
- difficult Boiled egg (one per bowl)
- Sliced green onions
- Parsley (optional)
- Other cooked meats and seafood you want there (I would love to try it Gator Next time. )
Take the chuck roast, place it in an instant pot insert and add enough water to cover it. Add 2 teaspoons of creole seasoning. (I use Tony Chacheret, but use your favorite brand or make your own.) If you want more beef, add a teaspoon of roast beef to something better than bouillon. You can, but it’s salty, so I plan to use a lot of soy sauce.
Close the instant pot and cook under high pressure for 1 hour. Relieve pressure and pull the beef with a few forks to see if it can be easily shredded. If not, cook under high pressure for an additional 15 minutes and repeat until easily separated.
If you can chop the beef into small pieces with a few forks without overdoing it, remove it from the soup and put it in a bowl and chop it into small pieces. Boil a large pot of salt water and cook the spaghetti according to the instructions on the package.
Pay attention to the soup while the noodles are being cooked. Taste a spoonful and add soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup to taste. The amount you add is very personal, but I have 1/4 cup soy sauce (taste after each tablespoon so as not to overdo it with sodium), 1 tablespoon W sauce, and 1 tablespoon I decided to add ketchup. We’ve also added a lot of healthy dashes for Louisiana hot sauce (no Tabasco).
Fine-tune the soup until you are satisfied, then put the shredded beef back in the pan. Divide the spaghetti into soup bowls, top with beef and soup, add your favorite meat and seafood, and decorate with soft-boiled eggs, green onions and parsley. Serve the sauce on the table so that you can make the yaka men a doctor as you like.
