The more time I spend making cocktails, the more often I go back to basics. I tend to get distracted by the idea of discovering something new in something old and well known. I’m reticent about infusions (which can be great), kitchen counter fermentations, eight-plus-ingredient potions, and elaborate cocktail presentations.
Yet how many times can you make, say, a mojito and feel life-affirmed? The answer, at least for me, is many times. Again and again, as Blanche says. If Karlin, who seems to have a habit of making magical things happen at home, has similar thoughts and is happy with that, then so be it. God, I hope everyone has Karin in their lives.
You can do this in several different ways. My original, in-home, very-laziness-When-unfrozen method; or slightly –more-involvement-and-icy road. Both are delicious, refreshing, almost moisturizing and rich in lycopene. wThis may help your blood pressure, depending on the medical research you read. I use Tajin and salt rim. Because…well, it’s pretty awesome, but it’s also completely optional.
how to make Watermelon margarita (lAjijiIllshmm wAhh)
- 3-4 ripe watermelons (such as 1-inch cubes)
- 2 sugar cubes (or 3/4 ounces simple.
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 2 ounces tequila (I use Blanco)
Mix the watermelon and sugar cubes in a shaker and add the other ingredients. Add ice to the shaker, shake for about 6-8 seconds, and pour into a glass filled with fresh ice.
If you want a tagine/salt rim, grab a small plate and pour the two ingredients in your preferred ratio. Dip in the tagine and salt mixture. Put ice in a glass and pour margaret.

- 2 ounces of tequila
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until uniform. Pour into a (preferably chilled) glass and love life a little.
