Calgary police have charged a man believed to be involved in two shootings over the weekend as friends and family mourn one victim.

Investigators believe two shootings in consecutive mornings in the neighboring northeastern communities of Falconridge and Castleridge are related, with the same suspect charged in both incidents. .

Tyler Roan, a 25-year-old Calgarian, has been charged with second-degree murder in the November 12 killing of 41-year-old Nathan Ward in Falconridge. He was also charged with attempted murder and armed robbery in the November 11 Castle Ridge shooting that left one man in critical condition.
Roan is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
In the Falconridge murders, police believe the victim and shooter knew each other and are continuing to investigate a motive. Although the victim was unknown to the shooter, investigators said there were several factors involved in the incident.

“The way the situation unfolded was different. The increased awareness around it and the focus on that area has led us to some quick conclusions,” said Calgary Police Service Sgt. Said Shawn Gregson at a press conference on Monday.
Police said the Castle Ridge shooting victim – an unidentified 56-year-old man – remains in hospital in critical but stable condition. Gregson said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time the victim. He was shot while walking to a car with his young daughter, and the car was stolen by gunmen.

“Someone was driving to work in the morning,” he said. “Our criminals took it as an opportunity to get a car, and there was a shooting there.”
Gregson said the shootings in the same area within two days were of “great concern” for the military, which used many resources to find the suspects. Arresting the known loan “removed that threat from the community,” he said.
“Two shots. Two days; Told.
“We are very relieved that we were able to detain him so quickly.”
In Falconridge Place NE, a Calgary resident ward was found dead of a gunshot wound Saturday morning, and friends and family gathered for a vigil Sunday night.
Attendees placed flowers, candles and cigarettes in the snow in memory of Ward and called for justice for his murder.
Ward’s death is Calgary’s 24th murder to date in 2022.
