A candidate for the New Blue Party in Ottawa West Nepean has dropped out of the state election race after being informed by the Canadian Army that he had violated military rules regarding political activity.

Scott Brandford, a sergeant of the Canadian gendarmerie, confirmed on Tuesday that he had submitted documents to remove his name from the ballot.
Under military regulations, regular military personnel are not allowed to be political candidates in state or federal elections.
Blandford has left the army due to an injury, but the process will not be completed until October.
“I spoke to (Canadian Army) today,” Blandford explained. “I’m medically free, but I’m still a member. That’s why I’m withdrawing from the election.”
Blandford didn’t know if the party would defend a new candidate for horseback riding. “They are currently looking at those details,” he added.
Blandford said he intends to continue his political activities after taking off his uniform. “I will have the next election when I become a citizen,” he added.

Defense spokesperson Dan Le Butillier told the newspaper that under military regulation, Blandford is still considered a full member of the military and is not allowed to be a candidate for state elections. rice field.
