Kim Jong Un’s sister warns US of ‘more lethal’ security crisis

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s influential sister said on Tuesday that Washington calls for a UN condemnation of North Korea’s recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test, calling for a “more deadly security”. He warned the United States that it would face an “upper crisis.”

Kim Yo-jong’s warning comes after US Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield said at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council that the US would issue a draft presidential statement condemning North Korea’s banned missile launches and other destabilizing activities. Monday’s UN Security Council meeting was convened after North Korea launched an ICBM on Friday. It was part of this year’s provocative missile test, which experts say aims to modernize its nuclear arsenal and boost its diplomatic clout in the future.

On Monday, North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Sun-hee called UN Secretary-General António Guterres a “puppet of the United States.”

There are concerns that North Korea will soon conduct its first nuclear test in five years.

The status of North Korea’s nuclear capabilities remains shrouded in secrecy. Some analysts say North Korea already has nuclear missiles capable of striking both the mainland United States and its allies South Korea and Japan, but North Korea’s possession of such missiles is likely to continue.
