Jerusalem Bombing: PM Trudeau Condemns ‘Terrorist Attack’ After Young Canadian Killed – National

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned a “terrorist attack” in Jerusalem on Wednesday after a series of explosions killed a young Canadian.

In the middle of the morning rush hour, two explosions near a bus stop in the city killed a Canadian and injured at least 18 others. After an hour, we arrived at Lamot, a hamlet north of the city.

The Associated Press reported that the victim was identified as Aryeh Shechopek, a Canadian-Israeli teen who was heading to a Jewish seminary when the explosion occurred. Lisa Stadel, Canadian Ambassador to Israel Bauer also confirmed his death on Twitter. There were conflicting reports as to Shechopek’s exact age.

“Unbelievably sad to learn of the death of a young Canadian in the terrorist attack in Jerusalem. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” Trudeau said in a tweet Wednesday morning.

“My thoughts are also with those who were injured. Canada condemns this violence in the strongest terms possible.”

The White House also condemned Wednesday’s explosion and said it provided all “appropriate assistance” to the Israeli government in investigating the incident.

“We mourn the reported loss of life and wish the injured a speedy recovery. The United States stands with the government and the people of Israel,” White House Press Secretary Carine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have soared for months. Israel is conducting night raids in the occupied West Bank, prompted by a series of attacks against Israelis that killed 19 of her in the spring. Attacks by Palestinians have increased in recent weeks, he reported the AP.
