What you need to know about the weekend: Cavalcade of Lights, FIFA World Cup.Road Closed

Cavalcade of Lights returns to Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto this weekend for a host of holiday-themed charity events across the GTA.

Team Canada will also face Croatia in the FIFA World Cup. Watch parties are happening around GTA One group that hosts a special watch party for all football fans is the Toronto High Park FC team.

Luckily, we’ll see another unscheduled weekend for the metro, but weekend road closures will still take place in the city.

Here’s what to do this weekend.

The Cavalcade of Lights Opening Night Celebration takes place Saturday from 3pm to 11pm, with the tree lighting at 8:30pm in Nathan Phillips Square.

Opening night includes family-friendly activities, live entertainment, and food vendors.

According to the City of Toronto, this year’s festival will transform City Hall and its surroundings into a winter wonderland, featuring an illuminated Christmas tree, a public skating rink and thousands of energy-efficient light bulbs.

Cavalcade of Lights runs until January 7, 2023.

One of a Kind Winter Show

This event is a great way to shop locally and support local artisans.

Over 600 Canadian artisans showcase their products at the One of a Kind Winter Show, ranging from home decor to fashion, toys, artisan food and more.

Shows are on weekdays and Saturdays from 10am to 9pm and Sundays from 10am to 6pm.

The event will feature a special late night show on December 1st from 10am to 11pm.

The show runs through December 4th at the Ena Care Center at the Exhibition Place.

FIFA World Cup Watch Party

of Toronto High Park FC The team is renting out the High Park Brewery Pub from 11am on Sundays to watch the Canadian men’s national soccer team play against Croatia in the 2022 World Cup match.

The Toronto High Park FC team manager told CityNews that the community watch party aims to showcase an impressive young footballer and his passion for the sport.

According to organizers, the football club is open to all ages and abilities. Also, from age 3 he offers programs for adults as well as programs for ages 18 and up.

Toronto’s immersive urban art walk titled Window Wonderland returns to Junction this weekend for the third year in a row.

From January 1, 2023 to January 1, 2023, Window Wonderland transforms The Junction into a free outdoor gallery featuring augmented reality (AR) installations and animated murals.

The event hosted by Isan Dare Authentic Thai Kitchen.

We love the Willowdale Christmas Market

The We Love Willowdale Christmas Market is back to celebrate the holiday season while giving back to the community by encouraging local shopping.

Willowdale Presbyterian Church at 38 Ellerslie Avenue hosts a homemade outdoor market of local artisans, food vendors and small businesses on Saturdays from 3pm to 8pm.

You’ll also have the chance to meet Santa Claus before leading the market parade at 7:30pm.

Newcomers to Ukraine, neighbors living in poverty and people experiencing homelessness sell their goods in this market. According to organizers, these individuals will receive a table to sell art and merchandise for free and access to marketing support leading up to the event.

All funds raised at the market will be used to purchase fresh produce for Willowdale’s family. of neighbor link North York food bank.

Road Closed

construction

  • Richmond Street between Parliament and Sherborne Streets has been reduced to two lanes and the bike lanes have been closed.
  • Adelaide Street is a one-lane section between Spadina Avenue and Bay Street. Scheduled for completion in the spring of 2023, the work precedes subway construction on the Ontario line.
  • College Street is undergoing a major overhaul with the road between Bathurst and Bay Streets closed or partially closed. City of Toronto officials said the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
  • Bloor Street has been affected by long-term construction between Parliament and Sherbourne streets and is already behind schedule.
