High School Teachers’ Union supports NDP candidate Ottawa Liberal Party

An Ontario union representing English public high school teachers and other educational staff has approved five liberals and two NDP candidates for horseback riding in the Ottawa region in a state election.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation said it would support Ottawa Center’s NDP candidates Joel Harden and Ottawa West Nepean’s Chandra Pasma. The five liberal candidates with the support of the federation are Stephen Brace of Orleans. Lucille Collard of Ottawa-Banier; John Fraser of Ottawa South. Amanda Simal of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell; Nepean Tyler Watt.

The union states that it is selecting candidates who strongly support public education. It represents 60,000 English public high school teachers and a variety of staff, including assistants, early childhood educators and managers.

The union also approved the candidacy of Guelph’s green party leader Mike Schleiner and Parry Sound Muskoka’s green candidate Matt Richter. NDP Candidates Kitchener-Waterloo’s Catherine Fife, Kitchener Center’s Laura May Lind, Kitchener-Conestoga’s Karen Meissner, Kitchener-South Hespeller’s Joan Weston. Meanwhile, the Ottawa-Carlton Chapter of the Ontario Elementary School Teachers’ Federation has previously announced approval for four NDPs and one Liberal Party candidate: Joel Harden at the Ottawa Center for NDP candidates, Laila Evans in Ottawa Banier, and Chandra in Ottawa West Nepean.
