Meta announced in a staff memo that the company plans to lay off more than 11,000 people, or 13% of its total workforce. The company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has admitted to mistimed a critical investment in the company, saying layoffs are a “last resort.” Zuckerberg said the layoffs will affect the hiring team and Reality Labs, the division responsible for the company’s metaverse project. The company has also cut discretionary spending and extended a hiring freeze through the first quarter of 2023.

After laying off 3,700 employees last week and backtracking on that decision by asking some furloughed staff to return to work, Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk is now pushing for further reforms. and is discouraging his employees. The company’s “rest day”, a monthly leave for employees to rest and recharge, has been removed in favor of a 24/7 workplace culture. Bloomberg also reported that Musk plans to scrap the company’s remote his work policy.

Amazon recently added 98 million songs to its Amazon Music library, which Prime members can now access for free and without ads. However, music can only be played in shuffle mode, and users cannot select individual songs from artists, albums, or playlists unless they pay an additional $9 USD per month for Amazon Music Unlimited. According to independent researchers, Apple collects highly detailed information about users even when they have turned off tracking. iPhone analytics ensures that Apple “completely disables device analytics sharing” if users turn it off. We have found that it has no apparent effect on collection.
