Last summer, I was having lunch with a friend at a restaurant when I suddenly passed out.

An ambulance was called and two very kind paramedics decided that I should be taken to the hospital.

Once there, the nurses correctly determined that my condition was not dire, but I was to wait with paramedics until I was transferred to the nursing staff.

There were a dozen stretchers in front of me, and two paramedics from the ambulance were standing next to each one.

I waited six hours with the paramedics for my turn.

Why do we need two paramedics to supervise each patient? Perhaps one of each pair could be dispatched to place another ambulance.

This may not solve the ambulance shortage, but it will cut the problem in half.
