A man found dead in a fire at a deer ridge house

A man was found dead in a burning house in a community southeast of the Deer Ridge on Tuesday night.

The Calgary Fire Department said it had responded to a multi-unit house fire that broke out in 100 blocks of the Deer Viewway just before 11:00 pm.

“The fire department first launched a defensive attack because the amount of flames spreading from the basement of the original unit created an unsafe condition on the main floor,” the fire department said in a statement.

“The fire was immediately controlled using an elevated master stream from an external hose line and one of the CFD’s aerial units.”

While searching the building, firefighters found a man dead.

Fire investigators, police, and coroners were on the scene all night to investigate the cause of the fire and death.

According to the fire department, the fire was largely contained in the basement where it broke out, with minimal damage to other units in the building.
