Toronto man on Canada’s most wanted list arrested in UK

Toronto police say a man included in Canada’s 25 most wanted criminals has been arrested by British authorities.

Usman Qasim, 40, has been wanted for several criminal investigations, including attempted murder, assault and gun-related charges. He was also placed on Canada’s Most Wanted List for his program Boro, along with his $50,000 bounty for his arrest.

According to a police update, a spokesperson said Qasim was arrested in early October and remains in custody in the UK.

A spokesperson said: “We are in contact with Manchester police about this individual, but we are unable to provide details of those discussions at this time.

They added that they would provide details once he was taken into custody by Toronto police from the UK.

In January 2020, Qasim was identified as a suspect in an assault investigation. He was wanted on charges of assault, criminal harassment, and several misdemeanors.

In April 2020, police responded to calls of shootings near Leslie Street and Shepherd Avenue East. Police alleged that Usman was driving a car with a passenger who opened fire on a couple sitting in another car. He was wanted on two counts of attempted murder.

On Oct. 25, 2021, police said a woman reported approaching a man in an underground parking garage and putting a gun to his head and threatening his life.

Police responded to incidents on Shepard Avenue and Yorkland Road where they first spotted Kassim, but Kassim escaped arrest after being hit by a police car. He was also wanted for several firearm crimes, death threats, and fleeing police.

As of Tuesday morning, a photo of Qasim posted on the Boro Program website was updated to read “arrested” on Oct. 1.
