Tapmaster Incorporated Launches Production Scale Stainless Steel 3D Printing Division in Calgary, Canadian Business Journal

CALGARY, Alberta, September 15, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Tapmaster Incorporated recently launched a new division under SumMetal Printing to provide rapid prototyping and short run production to Alberta businesses and entrepreneurs . Tapmaster owns the only desktop metal shop system printing in 316L stainless steel and uses direct contract in Canada. Combined with state-of-the-art HAAS CNC milling and turning capabilities, SumMetal can help you get virtually any prototype on track. Being local to Alberta enables shop visits, tours and fast turnarounds for Canadian customers who have historically relied on cross-border services.

The Desktop Metal Shop System is a binder jet style 3D printer. This unique technology allows hundreds of different parts to be printed simultaneously with a much finer surface finish than DMLS technology. This allows loading of multiple different parts or short run production of final end use parts. When finished, the parts produced are 99% dense and free of impurities, making them ideal for use in any environment where MIM (Metal Injection Molding) or casting is used. The printer’s high resolution also allows you to create parts that require machining. Fine pitch threads and small orifices can all be printed without post-processing in many cases.

Binder jet printing has several key advantages over traditional manufacturing methods.

  • No tool cost
  • No setup time
  • Little or no post-processing
  • 96 hour turnaround time possible

“We are very excited to bring this new manufacturing technology to the market in Canada,” said Tyler Pubben, president of Tapmaster Incorporated/SumMetal Printing.
