This $531 million project will raise the height of an existing curved concrete gravity dam by 131 feet, increasing reservoir capacity to a total of about 119,000 acre feet, making it the tallest dam in Colorado.
The GRE project aims to provide water safety to the more than 1.5 million residents who live in the Denver Water Service Area. The expanded reservoir will balance the catchment systems of northern Denver (Fraser/Colorado River Basin via Moffat Tunnel) and southern Denver (South Platte and Colorado/Blue River Basin via Roberts Tunnel), drawing water from multiple sources.
