Laliga builds Metaverse stack with help from Globant
Large sports organizations are turning to the digital world as a way to reach new fans and offer new interaction possibilities for their users. Laliga, Spain’s premier soccer league organization, recently announced a partnership to help expand the company’s digital reach. The organization partnered with his Globant, a Buenos Aires-based software giant, to build the Metaverse and his Web3 experience for current fans and new users.
These new additions will complement Laliga’s technology division’s current digital offerings, which currently include fantasy games, web design and development, and other areas. A press release describing the agreement hints at the possibility of developing games using these new technologies. However, no concrete products were directly announced as a result of the partnership.
Oscar Mayo, Executive Director of Laliga, said:
LaLiga Tech was founded to help accelerate the digital transformation of sports and entertainment. The surge in demand seen so far indicates that this is a top priority for the industry. Partnering with Globant will allow us to continue this growth on a global scale while creating the most immersive and valuable technology for our clients.
La Liga’s Metaverse Movement
Laliga is one of several sports league organizations that are making several moves to digitize some of their operations. This month, the company partnered with Ethereum-based metaverse platform Decentraland to offer a licensed IP experience on one of its available parcels on the metaverse. Similarly, the organization recently launched its own app called MAS, which includes blockchain technology to protect the identities of its fans.
The company has also entered the traditional game asset market, offering licensed products in Mojang’s block game Minecraft. In the game, users can equip any character with the jerseys of different teams present in Laliga’s roster by purchasing packs of skins for him.
Laliga has previously announced NFT-based projects. For 2021, he has partnered with Dapper Labs, creators of NBA Top Shots and Cryptokitties, to publish his NFT depicting the best moments of the league’s story.
