Snow warning issued for most of Calgary in southeastern Alberta

As winter storms continue to ravage the region, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued another Snowfall Warning for the City of Calgary, with up to 25 cm of snow likely to be seen by Monday evening.

Road conditions have deteriorated since the snowfall began last Wednesday, with the ECCC predicting that the Highway 1 corridor and southern part of the city will get the most snowfall before the snow is expected to ease in the evening. I predict the most likely.

Snowfall is expected in Calgary most of the day, with highs reaching -15C and a wind chill that makes it feel like -27C. Wind chill in the morning -30°C and -22°C in the afternoon increases the risk of frostbite.

ECCC Warning and Preparedness Meteorologist Natalie Hasel said in southern Alberta, a cyclonic system can be seen in the “quasi-stationary front structure” that is responsible for the strength and endurance of this storm.

“Depending on where you are, the areas with the most snowfall at the moment are along Route 1 and south. So obviously there will be some consequences for travel. , snow and blizzards can make travel difficult,” she said. “Also keep in mind that temperatures are likely to stay well below freezing through the weekend, so it’s not likely to melt anytime soon.”

Hasell said it won’t be until the weekend that Calgary will have the temperatures needed to start the thaw. There is a possibility.
