Smoke Weed, Lift Weights, Feel Good

When you hear someone say “lifting weights,” what image comes to mind? Perhaps Arnold Schwarzenegger, or the Hulk, or the famous montage scene in “Rocky.” Perhaps you simply picture a very large, very strong man, very tan and covered in olive oil, flexing for an audience.

If any of these or similar images come to mind, you know something about weightlifting—namely, that it can get you buff. But getting buff isn’t only what weightlifting is about. Only some people who pump iron get buff, and only some people even want to get buffby lifting weights.

Here’s a look at why you should lift weights, and why you should consider doing so while stoned on cannabis products from a place we’ve tested ordering weed online in Canada.

Why Lift Weights?

There are plenty of reasons people lift weights, the main one being that lifting weights is good for your health—and that means both physical and mental health. The physical health benefits of weightlifting, besides it being the best way to gain muscle, are substantial. When you lift weights, you may:

  • Enable your body to burn more calories when sitting and being physically idle in other ways
  • Gain flexibility
  • Burn fat (especially abdominal fat)
  • Strengthen bones and joints
  • Improve heart health
  • Lowers risk of injury and falls
  • Help manage blood sugar levels

The mental health benefits of pumping iron are also substantial. When you do strength training, you may:

  • Improve mood
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Strengthen mind-body connection
  • Lower stress levels

Not only that, but weightlifting is also known to improve brain health. Specifically, strength training may:

  • Improve memory
  • Bolster neuroprotective growth factors
  • Prevent cognitive decline
  • Sharpen concentration
  • Boost mental energy
  • Assist in new brain cell formation
  • Reduce inflammatory markers

All good things, right? No wonder people get hooked on lifting weights! It feels good, it helps you look good, and is undeniably good for you in so many ways. But did you also know that weightlifting and cannabis mix well together?

 Why Lift Weights on Cannabis?

There’s a common misconception that consuming cannabis slows you down and makes you lazy when the reality is that it can possibly make exercise more enjoyable and effective. Cannabis may jumpstart what we call a runner’s high, which you can get from doing other kinds of exercise.

It used to be thought that people get a runner’s high because increases endorphins, which create a pleasurable sensation by activating opioid receptors in our brains. That may not be true, however, as people who take drugs that block opioids before exercising can also enjoy a runner’s high.

A different theory, proposed by a 2003 study, is that people experience a runner’s high when exercising because it targets endocannabinoid receptors in the brain. Cannabis products like weed edibles target these same receptors, allowing people to jumpstart the pleasurable feelings that come with a runner’s high.

This can create a positive feedback loop: because people get a runner’s high by exercising when high on weed, they’re more likely to exercise.

In other words, getting stoned and pumping iron is a win-win situation. So why not give it a try?
